According to NdS, when excavated the two-sided counter was already partly destroyed.

The counter was faced, on both sides, with red plaster.

The horizontal top was covered with fragments of marble and slate, and contained four earthenware urns, of which only one remained.

The counter ended with a small hearth.

The shop-room had a high dado of brick plaster and above it, white plaster.

As in the previous thermopolium VI.15.15, traces of fire were observed.

VI.15.16 Pompeii. Found on 26th November 1897, between the upper layers of earth that was excavated, was a tile with the name in raised letters.

According to NdS, this west wall would have had two windows, one on each side of the doorway to the rear room.

The rear room would have had timber clad doorjambs and was totally rustic. It had a mezzanine above it.

According to NdS, on the west end of the dado of the north wall was a graffito:

CONTIQV    [= contiqu(ere)]

Above was traced a human foot, and close by, one above the other, two men’s heads.

VI.15.16 Pompeii. Drawings of two men’s heads found one below the other, on the north wall.

The first was 0.15m high.

The second was 0.16m high.

Under the lower head was another human foot and a hand.
